What a stressful day at work. Saturdays are usually not good days to work at Bennihana because we have to deal with massive crowds of hungry customers that are totally without reason when it comes to waiting. Many times I am quite patient with people that decides to throw their frustrations at me because they are hungry and irritable, but tonight, a customer came over to the front desk, where I was standing, poured wine all over me and the appointment book simply because he was tired of waiting. I was in shock because it is the only time I have ever seen someone react in such an angry manner over restaurant seating. He also threatened to sue and to bring the issue to high authority. What bothered me the most was that he had done all of these things in front of his five little children. They didn't know what went on except they saw how aggressive and angry their father was. One of the little girls asked the mom why they had to leave and the mom responded by saying "They didn't want to seat us because they didn't like to serve children". My heart was very heavy after I heard that. I kept thinking how wrong it was of the mother to distort the truth to her children simply because she was unhappy with the service at Bennihana. Was there a need to cry for justice simply because they didn't get what they wanted? Even though I have no right to judge, I have to ask what these parents are teaching their kids? Don't get me wrong, these folks may be good parents, but if they were truly looking out for their best interest of their children, why not take them to another restaurant with less waiting or go home and cook for themselves? Would it benefit the children more to eat the food or to learn about self control? Why can't they see that they have a free choice to walk out and go somewhere else? It makes me very sad.
